Opportunities to Present Your Research

Illinois State University Research Symposium

The Illinois State University Research Symposium is the primary on-campus student research event. The URS is open to enrolled Illinois State graduate and undergraduate students and will take place on April 10th, 2026. Morning and afternoon poster sessions will be held in the Brown Ballroom of the Bone Student Center with oral presentations at various locations around campus. Registration is open. Women and Gender Studies Student Symposium

The WGSS Symposium is a day-long program featuring student scholarship, creative work, and ideas underrepresented in Illinois State University’s traditional curriculum. Graduate and undergraduate students have the opportunity to share their research with other students and faculty from the Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program and affiliated departments. The Symposium accepts works related to the study of women, gender, and sexuality, as well as intersections with race, class, coloniality, and other forms of difference.

The abstract submission portal is now open for the  2026, 29th Annual WGSS Student Research Symposium which will be held April 24th, 2026, in the Bone Student Center.

Three Minute Thesis

The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) is a research communication competition that challenges master's and Ph.D. students to describe their research topic and its significance in just 3 minutes to a general audience. Winning presentations receive cash awards and proceed to the next level of competition.

 

Off-Campus Opportunities

Speak to your mentors and professors about opportunities to present at disciplinary conferences. Regional associations oftem welcome student participation.

Midwest Conference of Undergraduate Research

The Midwest Conference of Undergraduate Research and Scholarship is co-sponsored by the Midwest Journal of Undergraduate Research and Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois.

National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR)

The National Conference on Undergraduate Research is an annual conference for students dedicated to promoting research in all fields of study. This national conference is hosted by a different university each year, where thousands of students present their projects.

Council on Undergraduate Research Conference Listings

The Council on Undergraduate Research provides a variety of presentation opportunities for undergraduate students. Please note that some of the conferences and events may be restricted to students from a specific institution.
